Steve Scalise is a native of Jefferson Parish and a life-long Conservative. He’s working to support Conservatives across the country and expand the House Majority.
Steve’s greatest joy is being a husband to his wife Jennifer and a dad to his two children, Madison and Harrison.
He represents Louisiana’s 1st Congressional District, which stretches from the northern shore of Lake Pontchartrain to historic New Orleans suburbs and the Mississippi River delta.
The great-grandson of Italian immigrants, Steve’s family came to New Orleans from Sicily as farmers, eventually opening up a grocery store about eight blocks from where the Superdome is today.
Steve has spent his whole life in Louisiana. He graduated from Archbishop Rummel High School and attended Louisiana State University, where he was involved in College Republicans and student government. He earned a degree in Computer Science.
Steve is a life-long fan of the LSU Tigers and New Orleans Saints.
Steve registered as a Republican the day he turned 18. He won his first race in 1996, when he was elected to serve in the Louisiana State Legislature. While serving there, he earned a reputation for coalition-building and working across the aisle to secure crucial wins for the people he represented.
Steve has worked tirelessly since 2008 to represent the people of Southeast Louisiana.
Steve believes in upholding the Constitution, a robust national defense, exercising fiscal discipline, standing up for pro-life values and promoting common-sense energy strategies.
He holds an A+ rating from the National Rifle Association, and strongly advocates for protecting the Second Amendments rights of law-abiding citizens.
Steve currently serves as Majority Leader. As the second-highest ranking Republican member of House Leadership, he works hand-in-hand with his colleagues to build Conservative coalitions and pursue Conservative solutions to our country’s toughest challenges.
